We are pleased to be working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (Guelph ON) in the recruitment of their new Chief Veterinarian for Ontario / Director, Animal Health and Welfare Branch (CVO). This role provides a wonderful opportunity for the incumbent to shape and advance the Province's direction in animal health and welfare as well as to ensure effective protection, detection and response to hazards that may affect animal and human health in Ontario. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs seeks a licensed veterinarian and seasoned leader to seize this unique opportunity to contribute to the health of all Ontarians.

Our team would welcome your suggestions about potential candidates or your personal interest regarding this role. The successful candidate will join the Senior Management team and add leadership, direction and guidance to staff; serve as the Province's technical leader for the protection of animal health; provide an authoritative voice and expertise on livestock disease and public health; work closely with federal / provincial governments, other provinces and stakeholders; and lead provincial response to any outbreaks of disease in animals.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in veterinary medicine and a broad and recognized knowledge of animal health and food safety risks. We are seeking a leader with credibility at all levels of government, a strong reputation in the field and experience as an executive in leading a team of managers and professional staff. The position acts as Principal Advisor to the Minister and to the Chief Medical Officer in animal health emergencies.
