The Roslin Institute intends to establish a Research Veterinary Pathology Unit which will eventually serve groups across the University of Edinburgh. You will provide leadership in the establishment of this Unit, the supervision of technical staff and the training of residents/ postgraduate in the broad area of research veterinary pathology. You
will also be expected to establish your own externally-funded research programme within the Institute as a Group Leader, with appropriate support and start-up funds from the Institute, and to participate in collaborative research within and outside The Roslin Institute. The Roslin Institute is committed to the view that quality academic pathology is the engine-room of innovative research. We aspire to the generation of a Centre of Excellence, and there is considerable potential for you to grow the unit in the future. The outcomes envisaged for the Institute and the University include:

  • Training of the next generation of pathologists focussed on research
  • Access to a team of highly qualified pathologists and support staff to support world-leading animal sciences research
  • New and novel funding opportunities and new external collaborations
  • Increased involvement of pathologists in basic research
  • Increased flexibility to develop expertise as required (e.g. neuropathology, rodent pathology) through targeted recruitment
  • Continued investment in pathology infrastructure
  • The Roslin Veterinary Pathology Unit will have access to state-of-the-art equipment including sophisticated imaging facilities and molecular biology infrastructure within the new Roslin Institute Building

You will have a PhD in Biological Sciences and have an internationally recognised research profile with a strong record of achievement in Pathology, as evidenced by practical experience, in the University and/or public sector. You should have strong track record in leading and managing a Pathology service to a diverse range of user requirements. It is desirable that you will be either an Associate/Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists or a Diplomate of the European or American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
